There is peace here

Standard

There are moments when one is at peace
driving along a busy road
where sound is not noise
where society is a welcome sight
a reminder that life is simple.

Saw a man sitting on a bench
on a train platform teeming with life
He had headphones on and a book to read
cocooned within an invisible sphere
Perhaps it’s imagined or a wish
but you look protected from the world
even as you were within it
On that platform there was stillness
that’s missing from this world
in the aftermath of all the stories
of violent deaths and despair.

Simplicity does not seem possible
quiet persists in eluding us
but one could only see from one’s eyes
what the world is made of
but what do I know?

It’s probably me

Standard

Here’s the soulful voice of Gregory Porter.

“It’s probably me” was first released in 1992 through a collaboration of Sting, Eric Clapton, Michael Kamen and the incredible saxophonist, David Sanborn.

Enjoy!

Note to self

Standard

I believe more in synchronicity than mere coincidence, and who am I to decide one or the other? Perhaps it is both, or neither, or everything in between.

I choose to believe there is meaning and purpose in my life, and to find meaning in its many moments, “meaningful coincidence” (as Carl Jung described synchronicity) resonates. Perhaps it is what Buddhists refer to as noticing and attending to…

Yet the universe speaks…

There is magic

Standard

Looking out
into the grey mountain skies
remembering where I’ve been
wondering where the road will lead;
There is magic
in the shimmering rain that falls
in the light peering through
the future remains.

I am not my mistakes,
But God knows, I’ve made a few.
I started to question the angels,
And the answer they gave was you.

I cannot promise there won’t be sadness,
I wish I could take it from you.
But you’ll find the courage to face the madness,
And sing it because it’s true.

I love my life
I am powerful, I am beautiful, I am free
I love my life,
I am wonderful, I am magical, I am me,
I love my life.

Ambivalence… and music

Video

There are days when only music will serve, and today’s one of them. Someone very dear to me told me I think too much so today, I choose not to ask about the ‘what’ and ‘why’.

How amazing is the human psyche… our unconscious mind always communicating if only we would listen. Ambivalent day filled with ambivalent(?) songs…?

Enjoy!
