Independent motion – can you help?

The remarkable tenacity and courage… do help out!

Sue Vincent's Daily Echo

What would you give to make a dream come true if you woke to find yourself living a nightmare?

What would you feel if you could never again walk on a beach? Or go out alone in the snow…feel the stillness of a wood or cross a field?

And then, you found a way…

In 2009, my son was a successful young man with a bright future… until he was stabbed through the brain in an unprovoked attack and left for dead in an alley.

He was found almost immediately by passers-by who saved his life. By the time we arrived at the hospital, Nick was being prepared for emergency brain surgery. We were allowed to see him, for a few minutes, to say goodbye. He was not expected to survive…

Over the past couple of years, many in the blogging community have come to know my son and know…

A neo-soul song with attitude… for the women and men who embrace change, who rise up and who celebrate being unique.

And for those who find it difficult to get what we’re about  🙂 .

Woman of your dreams

Standard

If you could be the woman of your dreams, who would you be?

My answer: Me, myself and I.  No matter what my experiences might have been, are and may be, they are just that, experiences.  And I live them.  As you do yours.  You are amazing! 🙂

If you could be the woman of your dreams, who would you be?

In love,

#BeWow Inspirations for a life

Standard

alone_road

Of all the people who have entered my life,
They have been inspirational
They who shall remain nameless;
But you know who you are
You who have stood beside me
And inspired me by the way you live.

You who showed me perseverance in the face of adversities, never losing your humanity.
You who showed me kindness and affection despite accusations of ‘weakness’, never faltering still loving.
You who showed me strength and independence sometimes losing your way, yet kept moving forward.
You with your vivacity and confidence reminded me who I was once.
You with your calm and thoughtfulness granted me an understanding of the other.
You who showed me how to ‘live and let live‘ when I needed it most.
You who showed me a vision of grace and femininity, inviting me to explore my own.
You who showed me true strength and courage despite the ravages of life, always standing tall.
You who showed me one is only ever limited by the failure to imagine.
You who showed me the vagaries of the mind unless we feel, unless we are solitude personified.

I am blessed for your presence in my life’s moments
For the lessons I have learnt
For the inspiration and encouragement I have felt
That I am still learning, feeling
No matter where we journey, together or apart
I thank you.

In gratitude,

The artistry of poetry

Standard

Perhaps life has something to teach, perhaps it takes a life lived to hear the voice of poetry, perhaps I have changed, perhaps… perhaps… perhaps that is why I have come to appreciate poetry.

Yet for many years, I’m the ‘poetry is not for me’ type of person. In my mind writing poetry is all gift and it should come naturally otherwise I can’t do it. But lately I am at a place of ‘que sera, sera’… so I will write poetry fearlessly (somewhat?!).  The jury’s still out whether I am any good at it but hey, it is a form of expression and if I let it come, it is what it is, and whatever will be, will be.

And what brought about this stream of consciousness…? Well, Colleen’s (of Silver Threading) blogging event, Writer’s Quote Wednesday and combining my love for Sarah Kay’s spoken word poetry.

So, first a quote from Sarah Kay about the artistry of writing poetry:

Artistry S KayIt is in fact, like all creative outlets, hard work.

Now let me share a piece of spoken poetry titled ‘The Type’ by Sarah Kay.  Enjoy.

Letting Go Takes Love

Image

To all who care and love:

To let go does not mean to stop caring,
it means I can’t do it for someone else.

To let go is not to cut myself off,
it’s the realization I can’t control another.

To let go is not to enable,
but allow learning from natural consequences.

To let go is to admit powerlessness, which means
the outcome is not in my hands.

To let go is not to try to change or blame another,
it’s to make the most of myself.

To let go is not to care for,
but to care about.

To let go is not to fix,
but to be supportive.

To let go is not to judge,
but to allow another to be a human being.

To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes,
but to allow others to affect their destinies.

To let go is not to be protective,
it’s to permit another to face reality.

To let go is not to deny,
but to accept.

To let go is not to nag, scold or argue,
but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them.

To let go is not to adjust everything to my desires,
but to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it.

To let go is not to criticize or regulate anybody,
but to try to become what I dream I can be.

To let go is not to regret the past,
but to grow and live for the future.

To let go is to fear less and love more
and
To let go and to let God, is to find peace!

Remember: The time to love is short.

Feeding is not nourishing…

Standard

Busy-ness and stress are no strangers in my life. I am adept at managing it all. To replenish my energy, I meditated, slept the requisite 6 hours, ate nutritious food, made lists and check them off – everything to ensure daily life ticks over as it should. Well, I probably could have gotten more than 6 hours sleep if I ‘gave up’ writing but life would be unbearable :-).

Then a friend reminded me to nourish myself. It was then I realised in the midst of ‘doing’ living, I’d somehow forgotten to care for myself. You see, to look after myself as in to nourish myself takes more than eating the right foods and sleeping the recommended number of hours. I know this.

In essence, nourishing is more than meeting biological or physiological needs. Nourishing is about feeding the spirit and soul. By the way, nourish comes from the Latin word ‘nutrire’ meaning “feed” or “cherish”. It is defined as “provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition”. Feeding myself is indeed practical, I dare not dismiss this need. Yet when I use the word ‘cherish’ then the tonality changes. To cherish… for growth, health and good condition… that speaks of something different, don’t you think?

Something like… floating on a cloud, blissful in the flow of life, feeling every sensation. Energised to meet the new day and looking on with a happy disposition at the possibilities, both positive and negative. Mhmm…

So have I cherished myself? Maybe a tiny bit, but not enough. I had dispensed my energy to the extent that I had little reserves left. I have not read much when reading have always fed my soul. I abandoned my walks in nature – to be in nature and in particular, to observe the flora and fauna gladden my heart, lift my spirit. I even stopped eating chocolate – yes, sacrilege indeed 🙂 Particularly, I cannot remember the last time I sat before the piano, indulging in a tune here and there. So many nourishing rituals I’d somehow ‘forgotten’.

So I figured, enough already! I may have been meditating for relaxation but it seems I have to be mindful of not getting caught in the daily grind and to nourish myself as well… one day at a time.

Have you been here, in this space? Busy and believing you are taking care of yourself, when you really are not? When all you do for self is ‘survival’, not nourishment?

Why not write down a list of things which you do for yourself, those gems which nourish your soul, which lift your spirit?

And if you don’t have a list, well begin one now :-). What makes your heart sing? What makes you feel sensual? What inspires you? What gives you a spring in your step even just thinking of it? What makes you feel sated?

When you and I wake each morning, we will look at that list of gems, pick one for the day. We will treat ourselves every day.

Will you join me?

#BeWow A lighthouse…shining the way home

Video

Will you be a lighthouse shining the way home…for one person in your world?

When it gets real
Just know that I’ll be there
I got your back, like it’s just you and me here
I’ll go to war for you, let them bring it
I’ll take on the world for you, better believe it
So if you need me, just holler my name

When the night gets cold
And the lights go out
The sun is gone behind the clouds
When you feel lost, then I’ll reach out
To guide you home with my lighthouse

Be Wild and Wonderful!
