A late-night conversation brought this song to mind…
No matter our biological age, we anticipate the future. Will it be good, will it be enough, will it fulfill or disappoint…? When I am older, I will…
And depending on our mindset, we will either see “certainties” or unknowns. And we can become fearful either way. Certainty is so fixed, will things not improve? Is there nothing better coming my way? And unknowns, how will I prepare for them? Will I be able to handle what comes?
How did we become so attached to the need to know, to this habit of believing if we know for sure then we will be safe and secure, when the future is illusive to us now.
Perhaps the irony is that as we attempt to secure this certainty of our future, we are exposed to the reality of its uncertainty.
Unless of course you choose not to see… then the world will be in your mind as you want it to be. But where is the fun in that?
Let life remain an adventure, no matter your age.
Don’t let your wonder turn into closure
When you get older
The critical work is to realise what your adventure is. (Mine? indulging my cognitive curiosity 😉 )
