Living life, Reflection, The Self

What I’m learning from astrology

A new year, and what will it have in store for us?

Facebook has been showing me astrology posts for 2018… Why? Probably because my curiosity got the better of me at times and I clicked into these posts which purported to reveal my future. Sometimes they bring a smile as my heart gladdens at the generic messages, and at times, I shake my head at the ludicrous statements. It is a fun distraction but not one I would live my life by. This is not to say that I do not believe in the supernatural but Facebook posts, nah… 🙂

But I do learn from these posts.

I, like you, am curious about the future, perhaps harbouring a desire for certainty. We may be in the middle of “projects” which we hope would succeed, or relationships we hope would improve… perhaps knowing the outcomes might assist in assessing how much attention and effort, if any, we ought to expend. We are after all guided by principles of efficiency and productivity, more than we care to acknowledge.

What about the pronouncements which makes smile, and the ones I cringe from or reject? They say something about my desires, my wishes, my judgments, my fears … It is not about the statements themselves but rather my reaction to them which fascinate me. My interaction with these astrology posts cause me to reflect on what matters to me.

The next time you chance upon an astrological post, read it for a bit of fun, but pay attention to your reaction. Notice how you react to the declarations of your destiny or fate…of the steps you ought to take, attend to what you choose to believe and those you disregard. Reflect on these reactions, ask why. Be present in those moment and observe how you are.

What insights will you gather about you?

As with the new year, pay attention to what is here now – no worrying, anxious thoughts, obsessive action is required. Be here now, in Eckhart Tolle’s words, and do what is necessary in mindful response, and the future will unfold.

It is a state of mind, to focus on the present and let things be. It is a habit requiring an intention, a conscious purpose in play.

So by all means, let us set our intentions for this year.

And mine? I have set in motion what I said for many years I would do… #amwriting. This makes me happy.

What is your intention for 2018?
